What Daily Devotion Works Best to Inspire Your Time with God?

Can you relate to this?

Scheduling devotion time with God in the morning amid a hurried existence can be challenging. Yet, during my years of infertility, I grew to embrace and prioritize the most fantastic opportunity of my life—to have intimate daily communication with God no matter what. Nothing is more important.

Cause me to understand the way of your precepts,
that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds.
Psalm 19:27 NIV

For me, missing devotion time to dwell on the truth of God’s Word and commune with Him is like skipping a nutritious breakfast of spiritual vitality. If the mornings do not work out, I am called in my spirit to be with Him before the day is over. It may involve a lunchtime walk or maybe after dinner. I do not want to lose out on:

  • Honoring who He is, building our friendship, and filling my mind with His love and peace;
  • Getting His wisdom and confidence to move in the right direction that day;
  • Unloading the aches in my heart and asking for His help;
  • Having my ‘mental battery pack’ charged with His encouragement to persevere.

Regardless of the worry, challenge, concern, or conflict, engaging with Jesus is my sustenance.

…seek first His kingdom and His righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you.
Matthew 6:33

To move forward through your infertility journey with resilience, creating space devoted to worshiping God in Jesus’ name will fuel you with His strength and power.

Let’s chat about it.

Developing the Practice of a Daily Devotion

When we talk about devotion time, it might include:

  • Reading in your Bible—This can include meditating on the Scripturescalling out to God in prayer with adoration, and telling Him about your day’s plight. Then, being quiet and listening for the prompting of the Holy Spirit to shed light on the meaning of the Scriptures. Jesus promised: ” …the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26) You can personalize the Scriptures by inserting your name to actively claim the relevance of what is being said according to the Lord’s will.
  • Participating in a local Bible study.
  • Using an online devotion,  a phone app, or a devotion book to focus on a Scripture and thematic teaching that prompts prayer time.

Depending on the season, I have embraced all of these.

Starting SIMPLE is the key.

How about committing to 10-15 minutes of devotion time each day to focus upon a Scripture, pray using those words, listen for God to speak to your mind, and receive His peace? You can continually expand your time with additional spiritual disciplines. Everyone has their resources. I have linked you to some above.

My daily devotion has evolved to a mix of electronic and hand-held books. I listen to a devotion app on my phone, read a hand-held copy of a ‘One Year Bible’ (daily Old Testament, New Testament, Psalm, and Proverb readings), and reflect upon the teaching of a devotion booklet mailed to me monthly. (I enjoy underlining and writing notes in my Bible, devotion booklets, and journal.) Podcasts and Christian radio ministries also fill me up.

To use the phone app effectively, I avoid the temptation and distraction of peeking at text messages, email, social media, or news and go to my app for the first step of devotion. Then, I shut the phone off for the remainder of my devotion time, meditate on what I have heard, and read my One Year Bible.

In quiet, I listen to what God wants me to know, write it down, and thank Him. Finally, I pray a list of intentions to God about me, my family, the people I intercede for (including you and everyone who visits my blog), our nation, and issues on earth.

You Can Pray to the God of the Holy Bible for Direction on Developing your Devotion Time

Lord Jesus, I want to devote time to You every day. You are my friend, my refuge, and my strength (Psalm 46:1 NIV)

Please help me find the most effective time, place, and content to devote to You. I want You to be an intimate part of my day, experience the comfort of Your peace, and hear Your wisdom. What are the best phone apps, daily Bible reading, devotion books, and teaching sources to help me grow in a loving relationship with You? I embrace the Words in Your Scriptures: “… I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” Micah 7:7 NIV

I ask Your Holy Spirit to shower me with resources that fit my faith development and personality. I love how You direct my days to perfection. Thank You for being there for me! Amen.

Moving forward…

Ask yourself this:

When can I best integrate devotion time into my schedule?

Consider this challenge:

Try researching apps that offer daily Christian devotions that fit your faith development. Many apps for guided daily devotions, Bible reading plans, and hand-held books can be found online. Try implementing a daily devotion time immediately to experience the enrichment of God’s presence.

Having devotion time with your husband or a friend is a great way to grow in your faith with another believer .
